A guy at my local coffee shop told me I was putting too much milk in my lattes - turns out he was right

I used to fill my cup almost halfway with steamed milk before pulling the shot. He said I was drowning the espresso and losing all the flavor notes. First time I tried it his way with just a splash of milk I could actually taste the chocolatey undertones. Has anyone else had a stranger's random comment totally change how you make coffee?

Wait, wait... hang on. You're telling me you used to put the milk in BEFORE the shot? That's wild, I never even thought about doing it that way. I always pour the espresso first and then add my milk...

The real trick is dialing in your water temp before you even think about milk. If you're not between 195 and 205 your shots are gonna taste off no matter what you add.

@ivan_mason same thing happens with toaster settings - one random person tells you a simple fix and your whole morning changes.
