Had to pick between hosting a big group hang or just doing a small meetup at Chatter Lounge last weekend

So our local Chatter Lounge was doing this event thing for the first time in months. I was torn between offering to host a big open invite thing for like 30 people or just keeping it small with 5 close friends. I went with the big group because I thought more chatter would be better. Man, it got loud fast, people were talking over each other, and the wifi actually crapped out for a bit. A few folks left early because they couldn't hear anyone. Next time I'm definitely picking the small group, way easier to keep conversations going for everyone. Has anyone else tried a big lounge meetup and had it backfire like that?

Big groups always seem to overwhelm the whole room, kind of like how traffic jams happen for no reason.
