Had to pick between two local pizza places for game night. One was trendy and new, one was old school. I chose wrong at first.
So for the Super Bowl party last month, I had to decide between two pizza spots here in Cleveland. One was this hip new wood-fired place that opened in Ohio City, the other was a greasy old-school joint that's been around since 1989. I went with the trendy spot because the photos looked amazing on Instagram. Paid $28 for a 14-inch pie and it came out burnt on the edges and soggy in the middle. Everyone was picking at it and barely ate. My buddy finally ordered from the old place and we had to wait 45 extra minutes. That pizza was perfect though, crispy crust and way more cheese for $18. Has anyone else fallen for the hype of a newer spot and regretted it?

Ha, sounds about right. Instagram lies and your taste buds don't.

Have you all seen that study about how food bloggers use lighting and filters to make food look way better than it really is? I was reading about it the other day and it made so much sense. They put yellow gels on the lights for cheese and use frosted lenses for desserts to make everything glow. No wonder my homemade versions of those fancy Instagram recipes never look the same. The whole thing is basically a magic trick with a camera and some good lighting.
