Hit 1000 posts on this forum last night and it changed my mind about lurking

I've been browsing Chatter Lounge for about 2 years but rarely posted. Hit exactly 1000 posts read last night around 11pm, which is a random number my stats plugin showed me. Realized the people who actually comment get way more out of the discussions than I ever did just reading. Has anyone else found a threshold number where they started participating more?

Ngl, the fact that you hit exactly 1000 posts is wild to me. I can barely keep track of what I read for more than 20 minutes before getting distracted and clicking off. Honestly, that level of lurking dedication sounds exhausting but also kinda impressive. Tbh, I feel like if I hit a random number like that I'd probably get annoyed at my own stats plugin for keeping score at all. It's crazy that you actually made a change based on some arbitrary number though. Most people would just ignore it and keep scrolling.

500 posts read on a fishing forum is a lot, man. That's like, a whole season of just watching other people argue about bait and lures without saying a word. I kinda get the frustration though, I used to follow this gardening group where people would give the worst advice about tomato plants and I just sat there boiling inside for like a year. When you finally snap and start calling people out, it does make it more real.

Funny you mention that. I had a similar thing happen with a fishing forum years ago. Hit 500 posts read and realized I was just getting mad at people's bad advice without ever telling them they were wrong. Started piping up and it turned into a whole different experience.

@richard_anderson Same thing happens with a lot of stuff. People yell at their phones, complain to no one in the car, or get mad at bad drivers without ever honking. Once you actually say something, it changes how you see the whole thing.
