Hot take: last Tuesday was the worst day I've had at work in years

I work dispatch for a delivery company in Phoenix, and everything just fell apart. First, two drivers called out sick at 5 AM, then a truck had a tire blowout on the I-10. By lunch, I had 42 packages sitting in the hub with no one to run them. Has anyone else had a day where literally nothing went right?

Walked into dispatch at 5am to find both morning drivers quit on the spot. Called in a favor with a buddy from another hub who loaned me a temp driver for the afternoon shift. Just had to swallow my pride and ask for help even though I hate doing it.

Read a management article just last week about how asking for help actually makes you look stronger not weaker in the long run. When you're in dispatch and everything goes sideways, the real pros know when to call in favors. That buddy who loaned you a driver probably respects you more for being honest about needing backup. Pride gets in the way a lot in this industry but it sounds like you made the smart call. Swallowing your pride kept your operation running and that's what matters.

Three of my old supervisors from different warehouses all told me the same thing - asking for backup early keeps the whole system from collapsing later. @stellachen is absolutely right that it shows strength because your buddy at the other hub KNOWS you would return the favor when they're drowning too. Pride costs real money when trucks don't roll and customers start screaming at 6am.
