I tried two ways to set up a chatter lounge and one worked way better

First I just put a few chairs in a corner of my living room in Seattle, but nobody really talked. Then I set up a proper spot with a small table, good lighting, and a clear sign that said 'Chatter Lounge' on the wall. Having that defined space made people actually stop and chat for a while. Has anyone else found that giving a hangout spot a real name makes it work better?

Wonder if the sign works because it gives people permission to sit there, like @carr.elliot's buddy found. Maybe the name makes it feel less awkward to start a chat in someone else's house. It turns a random chair into a real spot.

A design blog said naming a space makes people feel invited to use it.

Ever see what a sign can do? My buddy had a sad little basement couch area nobody used. He slapped "The Bunker" on a piece of wood and hung it up, put a lamp next to it. Suddenly it's where everyone ends up playing cards. That name made it a real spot, not just furniture.
