My barber of 6 years told me my 'natural' part was making me look tired, so I tried his way for a month
I go to a small shop on 9th street and have gone to the same guy for 6 years. Last month he stopped mid cut and said my part was too far to the side and it made my face look longer and more tired. I pushed back because I have parted it there since high school. He shrugged and said fine, but he asked me to just try his way for three weeks before the next cut. I did it and honestly it looks better in photos. My sister noticed first and asked if I lost weight. I still don't love admitting it because I was pretty rude about it in the chair. I think the popular thing in my circle is to keep doing what feels familiar and call it personal style. Has anyone else had a barber or stylist push back and been wrong to fight them on it? Curious how you decided who was right in the end.
Did you read that thing about how we all get used to our own face in the mirror and stop really seeing it? I heard a stylist say once that people fight the advice because the old way feels like "them" and not just a habit.
