My buddy said my chatter lounge posts were too formal and it clicked

He told me, 'Dude, you're writing like it's a business email, not a chat room.' I started using way more casual language and shorter sentences, and people actually reply more now. What's one piece of feedback that changed how you post online?

It's funny, I actually had the opposite thing happen. I used to post in a really casual, messy way and someone pointed out it was hard to follow my point. Learning to structure a thought a bit more, without going full corporate memo, made a huge difference. There's a middle ground between a text to a friend and a work report. For me, getting better at that in-between style was the real game changer.

Wait, someone actually told you your posts were messy? That's wild. @joseph_ellis85 is right though, a tiny bit of order helps a ton without making it sound like a robot wrote it.

That's a good point about finding a middle ground. I mean, maybe it's just me, but I feel like the "casual and messy" style only really works if you're already known in a group. Like on a small discord server with friends, it's fine. But on a bigger forum, a little structure just helps people get what you're saying faster. It doesn't have to be stiff at all, just a basic setup of your idea.
