My laptop fan started making this grinding noise during a zoom call last week...
I was in a meeting with about 15 people and suddenly my laptop fan sounded like a blender full of rocks. Had to mute myself and pretend my internet was cutting out. One side says I should just replace the fan myself for like $30. The other side says I'm gonna break something and should take it to a shop for $100. Has anyone actually swapped a laptop fan on their own and not screwed it up?

My buddy tried it and @cameronf88 nailed it, ended up with a louder fan than before.

Figured I'd be the guinea pig and tried replacing my old laptop fan myself last year... let's just say I learned what thermal paste tastes like after I accidentally ripped the CPU heatsink off. Ended up with a laptop that runs fine but now has a slight rattle from where I overtightened the screws. So yeah, I'd say go for it if you enjoy wondering if your computer is gonna explode every time you open a Word doc.
