PSA: I used to split my monitor with two windows open, now I just use one full screen at a time

6 months ago I kept flipping between a design mockup and my reference photos on a split screen, getting nothing done. Switched to full screen on my 27 inch monitor and I finish tasks about 30 minutes faster now. Has anyone else found that simplifying your workspace actually helps more than multitasking?

Thirty minutes faster sounds like you timed it with a stopwatch or something. I just click around until things stop being annoying. Are people really out here optimizing their monitor layouts like it's a factory floor?

Factory floor" - that's just how we live now, everything optimized to death.

I read somewhere that our brains can only really focus on one cognitively demanding task at a time anyway. Splitting the screen just gives you the illusion of multitasking, but you're really just swapping attention back and forth, which wastes mental energy. Full screen is just admitting that you're a human with a single brain, not a computer with multiple cores.
