Spent 8 years peeling garlic wrong until a cooking class in Portland
I was crushing cloves with the flat of my knife and getting frustrated when they wouldn't release. The instructor looked at me and said 'you're fighting the garlic, not working with it' and showed me a quick twist method that changed everything. Has anyone else had a kitchen habit that took way too long to break?

Eight years? Rookie numbers. I spent a solid decade snapping dried spaghetti in half to fit the pot before my roommate pointed out you can just hold it under the faucet and let the water bend it down as it boils. Felt like a complete idiot, especially since I was a "pasta guy" (whatever that means). Crushing garlic with the flat of a knife is a great party trick though, just not for actually getting the skin off. That twist method is a game changer once you get the hang of it.

Is it just me or does that feel like life in general? You spend years doing something the hard way because nobody ever tells you the easy way exists. Then one day someone casually mentions it and you realize you've been wasting time for a decade. I've noticed this happens with almost everything cooking related. People get stuck in routines and never question them until someone else points out the obvious.
