Spent a full day trying to fix a simple chatter lounge audio echo

I was setting up a new voice chat room yesterday and ran into a persistent echo that made conversations impossible. I checked all my usual settings, reinstalled the software, and even swapped my headset, thinking it was a hardware issue. The fix turned out to be a single checkbox in the advanced audio settings called 'echo cancellation' that had been unchecked after a recent update. I must have spent about 8 hours total on this before I found it. Has anyone else had a simple setting cause a huge headache in their lounge setup?

My buddy Jake spent three days fighting a robotic voice effect on his stream. He replaced his entire mixer and audio interface before realizing his streaming software had a "voice changer" filter turned on by accident. It was set to "robot" at like 10% mix, just enough to sound broken.

That's actually a pretty common troubleshooting step though, checking the software last. Hardware issues just feel more likely when your voice sounds that weird.
