Still think you need a standing desk to fix your back? I dunno anymore.
I was at my buddy Dave's place in Cleveland last Saturday. He's got this $800 standing desk setup, fancy mat, the whole thing. Swears by it. But I sat on his couch for 4 hours typing on my laptop and my back felt better than his did after 30 minutes standing. Maybe posture and a good chair matter more than the trend. Anybody else ditch the standing desk hype and go back to sitting?

Stand there for four hours straight and tell me your knees don't scream at you. The whole point is you're supposed to move around, not plant yourself in one spot like a statue. I tried sitting all day at my old job and my hips locked up so bad I could barely walk to the bus stop. Standing forces you to shift weight, step side to side, actually use your legs. It's not a magic fix but it beats letting your spine compress into a C shape for eight hours straight.

Why would you trade the proven long-term spinal decompression of standing for a chair that just lets you hunch over all day?

Start noticing how everything in modern life is sold as a "fix" for something we're supposedly doing wrong, even if standing desks were working fine for millions of people. It's just another product cycle convincing us we need a new solution to a problem that wasn't really there.
