That moment I realized I was overdoing my warmup for 5 years

Was at a group fitness thing last month in Denver and this older guy watched me go through my 20 minute warmup routine (you know, tons of static stretches). He pulled me aside and told me I was basically making my muscles weaker before I even started moving. Turns out all that holding stretches before lifting was killing my power output. I switched to dynamic warmups after that convo and my squat numbers jumped in like 2 weeks. Anyone else ever get a weird tip from a stranger that turned out to be spot on?

Started doing the same thing after I read about it online and it completely changed my lifts too. Stopped all that static stretching before squatting and my knee pain disappeared within a week.

That line about your knee pain disappearing within a week really got me thinking. I had a similar thing happen but with my shoulders. Used to do all these holds and static stretches before overhead pressing, thought I was being smart about it. An old timer at my gym told me to just warm up with light weight and stop yanking on my arms. Felt weird at first but after a couple weeks that clicking sound in my shoulder just stopped. Now I mostly just do some arm circles and get right into it. Funny how we make things harder than they need to be.
