Update: spent 2 years formatting my forum replies like a work email and nobody ever replied back
I always opened with 'Hi everyone, hope you're all doing well' and closed with 'thanks for reading, let me know your thoughts.' Last month my buddy Ray in Phoenix laughed at one of my posts and asked why I write like I'm cc'ing a manager. I went back through my history and counted 40 posts with that same stiff opener and almost no replies on any of them. So how do you all actually start a post here without it sounding like a status update at the office?
I get why you're frustrated but the stiff writing probably wasn't the real problem. Plenty of people here write normal and still get zero replies, it's just how forums go sometimes. The bigger thing is a post needs something for people to grab onto, like a question they want to answer or a take they want to argue with. "Thanks for reading, let me know your thoughts" gives them nothing to push back on. Try starting with your point right away and skip the greeting. If you want a reply, say something people can agree or disagree with.
