Burned my rice three times in a row before I figured out the foil lid trick from a random comment

I was in my tiny apartment kitchen last Thursday with my last $3 bag of jasmine rice and after the third scorched pot I finally tried covering it with foil instead of the glass lid and the steam actually stayed even and fluffy, has anyone else found a weird hack like that for a cheap staple?

Those little air pockets you get without the foil... does it actually change the baking time a lot? I always figured it would just make the edges crispy but now I'm wondering if the middle would be more raw or something. That could mess up a whole cake recipe if you aren't careful.
