Finally compared dried beans vs canned beans for chili and the savings blew my mind

I made a pot of chili with a $1.50 bag of dried pintos and another with $3 worth of canned ones, and the dried version only took an extra 30 minutes of simmering for way more servings. Has anyone else tried swapping canned for dried in soups to stretch your grocery budget?

Dried beans really are the ultimate budget hack for soups and chilis (especially when you bulk buy the 5lb bags). Once you factor in the texture difference too, canned just doesn't hold up for that slow-simmered richness.

You ever try cooking them in a slow cooker overnight? That's where the real magic happens for me. The texture comes out way better than canned, and you can control the salt and seasonings from the start. I usually soak mine for at least 8 hours before throwing them in the pot. Do you have a go-to bean variety for your chilis, or do you just grab whatever's cheapest?
