People keep throwing away perfectly good rice thinking it's bad

I saw my roommate toss a whole pot of rice after it sat out for 4 hours. She said it was dangerous. I've been leaving my rice on the counter overnight for like 15 years and never got sick. As long as you don't keep it more than 24 hours at room temp it's fine. Has anyone else had to argue with someone about this?

Wait, isn't rice actually RISKY if you leave it out more than 2 hours?

Learned this the hard way myself actually. Used to think rice was fine on the counter for hours. Then my buddy who works in a restaurant told me about Bacillus cereus. That stuff multiplies fast in cooked rice. Now I stick it in the fridge within an hour, no exceptions.

Learned this the hard way myself" - yeah I feel you man but I'm with the original poster on this one. I read somewhere that the whole Bacillus cereus thing is blown out of proportion for regular home kitchens. Like unless you're serving food to old people or sick folks, rice left out overnight is fine. My grandma used to leave her rice on the stove all day and we ate it for dinner, nobody ever died.
