The day-old bread rack at Meijer changed my whole dinner plan
Stopped by Meijer on 8 Mile last Thursday around 7pm and saw they mark down the day-old bakery loads to 89 cents each. Grabbed a sourdough and a baguette for under 2 bucks total. Made a garlic bread situation with butter and some dried herbs I already had, then turned the sourdough into croutons for a salad using a 99 cent bag of romaine and a 1.50 jar of dressing. Total meal cost me maybe 3.50 and fed me for two nights. The croutons actually came out better than the ones from the store, crispy and not too oily. Does anyone else hit up the markdown rack right before closing or do you guys stick to the actual bread aisle? I'm wondering if the timing matters that much or if I just got lucky with what they had left.

Dang, you check the sell-by date on that sourdough or just risk it?
