Tried to make rice in my hotel room with a coffee maker and set off the smoke alarm
Stayed at a cheap motel in Reno two weeks ago and tried to cook rice in the little coffee pot to save money on food. I dumped in a cup of dry rice and way too much water, and within about 4 minutes it boiled over and burned onto the hot plate. The smoke alarm went off, the front desk guy came knocking, and I had to explain that I was just trying to make dinner for under $2. Now I stick to no-cook stuff when I travel, like peanut butter sandwiches and apples from the grocery store. What are your go-to cheap meals that don't need a stove or microwave?
Two years ago I swore I'd never pay for hotel food and ended up ruining a $40 coffee maker in Boise doing the exact same thing. Now I just hit up a grocery store for a rotisserie chicken, bag of rolls, and a avocado and eat cold chicken sandwiches for three days straight.
