My $4 bean pot cracked on the stove and I want to warn folks about this one dumb mistake
So I was making my usual big pot of pinto beans on Sunday, the one that gets me through four days of lunches for about $4 total, and the bottom of my cheap pot just split open mid simmer and dumped beans and broth all over the burner. I had grabbed it from the dollar store rack about a year back and figured a pot is a pot, but the metal was so thin that the direct heat warped it over time until it finally gave out. I lost the whole batch plus a $2 bag of dried beans and spent 40 minutes scraping burnt bean sludge off the stove. Now I only cook beans in my one heavy bottom pot, even though its smaller, and I soak the beans overnight so it doesnt need to sit on high heat. Anyone else had a cheap pot or pan fail on them mid cook, and did you find a decent heavy one without paying real money for it?
