My $20 mandoline slicer almost cost me a trip to urgent care

That cheap one from the restaurant supply store went dull fast and the guard never stayed on. Ended up dropping $80 on a Benriner after a close call with my finger. Anyone else ditch the budget slicers after a scare?

wait you said "haha I still have all ten fingers" like it's funny @sageadams? because I literally nicked my thumb on a cheapo mandoline two weeks ago and that guard might as well have been a toy. blood everywhere and I was this close to driving myself to the clinic. now I'm paranoid every time I slice anything. I don't care if the Benriner costs a hundred bucks if it means I don't have to explain to the ER doctor why I'm bleeding over my potatoes.
