Question about the new 'fresh' scallops at the Fulton Fish Market

I bought a case of the 'dry pack' scallops from the main vendor on the east side last week, and they were pumped full of water. Lost almost 30% of the weight after a quick sear, and the texture was mush. I started asking for a sample seared right there on their hot plate, and two other vendors showed the same problem. Anyone else run into this lately and found a good source?

Tbh that hot plate test is the only way to shop there now. Ngl I've had better luck asking for diver scallops specifically, even if they cost more. The regular "dry pack" label doesn't mean much anymore from what I've seen. It's gotten to the point where I just make the trip to a different market entirely.

Maybe we should just bring our own hot plates to the seafood counter and test before buying.
