Appreciation post: The community solar signup at my local library that finally got me off the fence

I've been saying I wanted to go solar for like 2 years but kept making excuses. Too expensive, renting my house, all that. Then last month my library in Portland had this info session about community solar. I figured it was gonna be some sales pitch but this lady from the local nonprofit just laid out the numbers. My share costs $0 upfront and saves me about $8 a month on my bill. I signed up right there. I guess I needed someone to show me the specific program instead of just reading about solar panels online. Has anyone else found a local program that made it way easier than you thought?

Dude the "$8 a month" part got me. That's like skipping one coffee a month. I signed up for a similar thing through my city's website last year and it was literally a 5 minute form. No credit check, no nothing. Just started seeing the credit on my bill the next cycle.

Wait did your friend tell you about that scam energy broker thing that popped up in Phoenix last year? My buddy Jake signed up for some "$8 a month green energy" program through a door to door guy, turned out it was a third party reseller that locked him into a variable rate contract. His bill jumped from $120 to almost $300 after the promo ended and they hit him with early termination fees when he tried to switch back. Took him like 3 months of fighting with the utility to get it sorted.
