Hit my personal record for daily trash pickup on the beach yesterday

I counted 47 plastic bottles on a quarter-mile stretch near Huntington Pier and that's not even counting the caps and straws. How many do you usually find on a clean-up walk?

My buddy Tim goes out to the same spot every weekend and he said he pulled 83 plastic bottles once in just a morning. He was so mad he started a whole Instagram page about it lol

Read somewhere that something like 8 million tons of plastic ends up in the ocean every year and most of it comes from rivers and stuff like that. It's wild to think that one guy pulling 83 bottles in a single morning is just a tiny fraction of what's out there. Tim's Instagram page is a good idea though, putting a face on this mess makes it more real than just reading stats. I bet if more people saw that kind of haul theyd think twice about tossing a bottle on the ground. Those little streams and ditches we ignore all feed into the big waterways eventually. Good on Tim for doing something instead of just getting mad about it.

Oh man, that's insane! 83 bottles in one morning is crazy and I totally get why your buddy started an Instagram page. I do cleanups too and last time I hit 62 bottles plus a bunch of weird stuff like a flip flop and a car tire, it's just nonstop out there. Great job hitting your record, every bottle counts no matter how small it feels next to those big numbers.
