I wasted $80 on a bamboo compost bin that fell apart in 2 weeks
I saw this cute bamboo countertop compost bin at a local shop in Portland and thought it would be PERFECT for food scraps. After 10 days, the bottom started to rot and smell like a swamp. Then on day 14, the handle snapped off when I tried to empty it. Has anyone else had luck with those metal ones from Target instead?

Wasted my money on one of those bamboo bins too. Mine started looking like a wet cardboard box by week two and the lid got all warped. I switched to a metal one from Target for like $25 and it hasn't rotted or broken on me yet after six months. Guess I should have known better than to trust a fancy bamboo thing from a hipster shop.

Totally agree with you @dakota_patel98! I splurged on one from some Etsy shop that looked so nice in the photos and it literally curled up at the edges within a week. The lid didn't fit right after that either, just kinda sagged in the middle. I tried drying it out in the sun and everything but it was never the same. Ended up throwing it away which felt like such a waste of money. Now I just use a plain plastic one from the grocery store and it does the job fine. Bamboo really is not meant for a bathroom with all that humidity no matter how cute it looks.

Man that's EXACTLY what happened to me too! @dakota_patel98 I went through TWO different bamboo bins before I learned my lesson. My second one got this gross musty smell after a few weeks no matter how much I aired it out. Finally grabbed a rustproof metal one from Amazon for around $20 and it's been going strong for almost a year now with zero issues. I honestly don't get why people keep pushing bamboo for bathrooms when it clearly can't handle the steam from a hot shower.
