My community fridge compressor died in the middle of a heat wave
I help run a small community fridge in Austin and the compressor gave out last Friday when it hit 104, right after we'd stocked 60 pounds of produce from local gardens. We scrambled to move everything to a friend's walk-in cooler, but we lost maybe 15 pounds of greens and dairy that had already started to soften. Has anyone else dealt with keeping a food share going when the cooling gear fails, and what backup setups actually work on a tight budget?

Damn, wait, you lost 15 pounds of food in 104 degree heat? That's brutal, I can't even imagine watching all that hard work from local gardeners just wilt away like that.
