My landlord's offhand comment about AC filters saved me $90 a month

Last summer my electric bill hit $280 in Phoenix and I was ready to blame the old unit. Then my landlord stopped by to fix a leaky faucet and said, "you change that filter every month, right?" I hadn't, not once in 8 months. I swapped it for a $6 MERV-8 filter and my next bill dropped to $190. Now I set a phone reminder on the 1st and the AC runs way less. Anyone else see a huge drop just from keeping filters clean?
