My neighborhood compost bin turned into a raccoon buffet overnight

Last Thursday I put out our new curbside compost bucket with the latch you're supposed to twist, but I guess I didn't click it fully, so at 5am I hear this crash and look outside to see three raccoons dragging carrot peels across my lawn like they won the lottery. They tipped the whole 13 gallon bin over and scattered coffee grounds and eggshells across two driveways, plus they somehow opened my neighbor's bin too and left a trail of moldy bread down the block. Has anyone else had wildlife go full heist mode on their composting setup, and what latch or bin design actually keeps them out for good?
