My neighbor's rain barrel math made me double check ours after 6 years
She said her 55 gallon barrel fills up in one storm and then the overflow just sits there, so last week I actually measured mine during a downpour in Austin and we've been missing out on about 200 gallons a month because our downspout diverter is pointed at the driveway, has anyone else found their setup has a dumb little flaw like that?

The part about the overflow just sitting there got me. That's the thing, we set these things up once and then never look at them again. It's like the whole house is full of those little blind spots, the one drawer that never opens right, the light switch that's behind the door, the shelf you can't reach without a step stool. You just get used to it and forget it's even a problem until someone points it out. I bet if we all did a little audit of our yards and gutters and stuff, we'd find a bunch of wasted effort just like your driveway situation. It's almost like we design our lives around the flaws instead of just fixing them in the first ten minutes.
