My neighbor's solar panel advice backfired in the best way possible

Last spring my neighbor Dave kept telling me to skip the fancy monitoring app and just glance at my meter every morning. I thought he was nuts, but he insisted the app just made people anxious about cloudy days. I followed his advice for 3 months and caught a failing inverter on day 74 when the numbers suddenly dropped. Turns out the app would've flagged it sooner, but Dave's method saved me from obsessing over every rainstorm. Now I check the meter with my coffee and it's honestly more relaxing. Has anyone else gotten surprisingly good advice from a non-techy neighbor?
