My town canceled the curbside composting program without telling anyone

I found out when my green bin wasn't picked up for three weeks and when I called they said the route was 'paused' but really they just never bothered to mail a notice because they figured nobody would notice anyway, has anyone else dealt with a recycling or composting program disappearing like that?

Our town did the same thing with glass recycling a few years back, just quietly stopped picking it up and hoped no one would say anything. I didn't notice for like two months because I'm that guy who forgets to put the bins out half the time anyway.

Yeah that's just unreal to me! Like @skylerrobinson said about the glass piling up in their neighbor's garage for months, it makes you wonder how many other services they've quietly cut. Did the town ever actually admit to it or did they just sweep it under the rug when someone finally called them out? I mean seriously, if they're this sneaky about recycling what else are they hoping nobody notices? Our town tried the same thing with the plastic bags at the recycling center and just acted confused when people showed up with them. It's like they think we're all too busy or too distracted to call them on their nonsense.

Wait, they really just stopped picking it up and nobody said anything for months? That's wild to me. @the_jordan I can't believe you waited two months before even realizing - but then again I've done the same thing with our compost pickup actually. My neighbor had a whole pile of glass bottles stacked up in their garage for like four months before someone finally called the town about it. The worst part was the town's response when they got found out - they just said "oh we didn't think anyone would miss it" like it was no big deal. Makes you wonder what else they're quietly dropping without telling anyone.
