Saved $80 a month just by switching my laundry routine
My local hardware store in Portland had a workshop on cold water washing. They showed us how much energy goes into heating water for a single load. Now I only wash in cold and air dry half my stuff. Has anyone else tried cutting dryer sheets too? I heard they mess with sensor dryers.

That aluminum foil trick for static is smart, I never thought of that. You can also toss a dry microfiber cloth in with your laundry to catch lint and pet hair, no dryer sheet needed.

Wow, you're actually saving that much? I switched to cold water two years ago and it cut my gas bill noticeably in winter. For dryer sheets, just toss a crumpled ball of aluminum foil in the dryer instead, it knocks static down without coating the sensor.
