The creek behind my house in Dayton was brown for years and now it's clear.

They put in a new storm drain filter system about eight months ago, and the water went from looking like mud to where you can see the bottom. Has anyone else seen a project like that work so fast in their area?

Did they test the water quality too, or is it just visibly clearer now?

Seriously, you have to test it! Clear water can still have nasty stuff in it (like bacteria or chemicals). Grab a cheap test kit from the hardware store to be sure.

My buddy thought his pond was fine after it cleared up. He let his dog swim in it for a week. Then the dog got a nasty skin infection from some bacteria the vet said was in the water. The test kit he bought later showed high levels of something, I forget what exactly. He felt awful about it. Makes you wonder how often clear water tricks people, right?
