Took 11 months to get my HOA to approve solar panels

I put in the request for a rooftop solar install in February last year. They kept asking for more paperwork, different panel specs, and a structural engineer report that cost me $400. By the time I got the approval in January, the federal tax credit had dropped 4%. Has anyone else had their HOA drag out solar approvals past the point where the savings made sense?

Did you check if your HOA's delay actually broke state law about solar rights? Most states have laws that limit how long HOAs can sit on solar applications, usually 30 to 60 days. If they dragged it past that, you could have filed a complaint and maybe gotten those lost savings back.

Huh, never thought about that. My HOA took forever too but I just figured they were being jerks, didn't know I might've had legal grounds to push back.
