Why does nobody talk about the energy drain from vampire appliances in your home office?
I unplugged everything in my desk setup for a weekend, except the router, and my power bill for that month in Phoenix was $12 lower than usual, which taught me that even small, constant draws add up fast and that simple actions have a real impact.

Wait, you left the router plugged in on purpose?

Yeah mary_foster92, I left it on for the whole three day weekend. My smart TV needs to check for updates constantly or it throws a fit. The router light is like a tiny blue nightlight now. I figure the five dollars in extra electricity is cheaper than my frustration on Monday. Sometimes you just have to pick the lazy way that works.

Used to think vampire power was a joke. Then I saw my own bill drop after unplugging the desk stuff. @the_sage has a point about the lazy way, but that router light is costing more than you'd guess. Might be time for a power strip with a switch.
