Finally landed a tricky thread repair this morning
Had a customer bring in a part that got cross-threaded bad, 3/8-16 on a Bridgeport part. Old timer at the shop told me 'take your time, feel the cut' - he was right, took 15 minutes slow and steadied it. Any of you guys use a specific technique for thread chasing that works every time?

Did you try yelling at it first? That's my go-to move, usually loosens things up or at least makes me feel better while I'm doing it wrong. But seriously, the whole 'feel the cut' thing is real, I've learned that the hard way after snapping off a few taps inside a part I couldn't replace. My trick is to use a little cutting oil and back the tap out every couple turns to clear the chips, keeps the pressure low and the threads clean. Course, that only works if you're not in a hurry, which is never at my place.

Oh man, @averymartin, that cutting oil trick is a lifesaver, isn't it? I've definitely been there with snapping taps in tight spots, it's the worst feeling when you hear that little snap and know you're in for a bad time. Backing it out every few turns really does make a huge difference, even if it slows you down a bit.
