Had a customer argue with me about feed rates on a Haas VF-2 last Tuesday

Guy comes in with a part print, tells me to run his aluminum job at 200 IPM with a 1/2 endmill. I said that's going to chatter bad on that machine. He insisted he ran it before. I showed him the manual specs and gave him a test cut at 120 IPM instead. It came out clean, he shut up. Anyone else deal with customers who think they know your machine better than you do?

Wait, did he actually show you his previous setup or just claim he ran it?

Been there, done that - I once argued with a guy about feeds and speeds until I realized I was wrong and he was right. Talk about eating crow while your chip load calculations are all over the floor.

@richard_anderson that reminds me of the time I argued with a machinist about tool wear patterns and he just handed me a dull endmill to check for myself. Nothing like holding a ruined cutter to shut you right up lol
