I was using the wrong coolant mix for two straight years

I kept having rust spots on my steel parts, and my boss would just shake his head. Last Tuesday, a new guy from the Milwaukee plant asked why my sump looked like skim milk. I told him I mixed it one part coolant to ten parts water, like the old jug said. He laughed and showed me the new concentrate bottle, which clearly says a one to twenty mix. Who reads the bottle after the first time, right? Anyone else ever stick with a bad habit way too long just because it worked once?

Two years is a long time to run the wrong mix. Makes you wonder what other shop habits we're all doing wrong just because nobody checked.

Our floor looked fine with the wrong mix for ages.

Oh man, that hits home. I ran a floor scrubber with the same wrong dilution for months because the old guy who trained me said "a good glug" was fine. It left this weird film everywhere. What finally worked for me was just putting a big, dumb label right on the machine with the right mix ratio after someone like cameronn62 pointed out my streaks. Sometimes you need that outside person to see the thing you've been blind to forever.
