Just realized my buddy was right about G-code comments

Had a conversation with a guy at the hardware store who said he writes a comment every 10 lines of G-code, and I thought he was crazy until I had to troubleshoot a 300-line program from 3 years ago with zero notes, now I'm the one adding comments like 'this bores the 6mm hole' even though it feels stupid at first.

Wait, you actually met someone in real life who had good advice about CAM programming? That's wild, like finding a unicorn at the hardware store. Most guys I talk to just tell me to "use more coolant" or whatever and then give me a weird look when I ask about post-processor settings. Honestly though, that 10-line rule sounds kind of genius once you think about it. I bet that guy saves himself hours of headache every month just by writing down the obvious stuff before he forgets it.

Exactly. The good ones are rare but gold when you find them.

Wait, does that mean you're seriously gonna start doing the same thing with all your old programs too? I work IT and see people trash whole projects cause they can't decode their own notes from last month, let alone three years ago. The guy at the store is probably sitting on a goldmine of saved time, just wish more people would admit comments are worth the extra five seconds instead of acting like they're too cool for it.
