Learned a trick for setting tool offsets from an old timer at a shop in Dayton
Guy named Mike at Precision Parts in Dayton showed me how to use a 1-2-3 block instead of a feeler gauge for quick offsets. He said to touch off the tool, slide the block under, then subtract 2 inches. Saves me about 10 minutes per setup now. Anyone else use a block like that or stick with paper?

Used to think the paper method was good enough and this block thing was just extra steps. Tried it on a repeat job a few weeks back and it cut my setup time by almost half. Old timers really do have some solid tricks still worth picking up.

Half the setup time? That's wild.

Hey @skylerrobinson, did you find it took a couple tries to get the feel for the block? I was using paper for years too but switched after watching a guy at a shop in Cincinnati. He used a 1 inch block and just subtracted that, real simple. Now I keep a 1-2-3 block in my apron pocket and it saves me 5 or 6 minutes every time I swap a tool.
