Old machinist told me to skip coolant on aluminum. He was right.

Guy with 30 years at a shop in Detroit said just use WD-40 for aluminum. Smells weird but my finish came out mirror smooth. Has anyone else tried cutting dry on certain materials?

Does WD-40 leave any kind of residue that messes with painting or welding later? I tried it once on a small part and it worked fine, but I was worried about contaminating the piece for a tig job. Was your guy running it with the can just spraying a mist on the cut or did he soak the hell out of it? I'm curious how heavy he laid it on.

Man I feel you on this one, worrying about contamination is a pain.
