Old shop lead's one question saved me from a bad setup

Back in 2018 at a shop off 43rd in Milwaukee, I was setting up a 4th axis for a repeat job and kept getting chatter on the finish pass. The lead guy, just walked by and asked 'what's the part doing at the tool change, not at the cut?' Took me a second to realize I was clamping it in a way that let it shift right when the holder released pressure. He showed me to check the part position with a dial indicator before and after each tool swap. Took 15 minutes to re-fixture and the chatter was gone. Any of you ever had a hint like that where the fix was in the setup, not the speeds?

Used to chase speeds and feeds every time I saw chatter, figured it was always a tool or rpm thing. Then a job like that bit me and I wasted a whole shift dialing in the same cut over and over. That little question about what the part does at the tool change is one of those things that sticks. Now I check the whole path, not just the cutting moment, before I touch anything else. Makes you feel dumb for how simple the fix ends up being.
