Saw a stat that said aluminum feeds way slower than steel - is that really true or just old school thinking?

Oh come on, that stat is totally backwards, aluminum actually cuts faster than steel in most shops I've seen.

Depends on the alloy. 6061 sure, 7075 not so much.

Yeah, Linda's right about that... @wendyk56 definitely knows her stuff. I've seen guys try to run aluminum at the same speeds as steel and wonder why their bits are glowing red. The chip load is totally different too, aluminum just peels off nice and clean while steel fights you every step of the way. Even with a cheaper grade like 6061, you can bump up the feed rate way past what steel can handle without worrying about tool life. It's not even close once you start comparing actual cycle times on the floor.
