Spindle load meter saved my butt after 3 busted inserts
Last Tuesday I was roughing out a 4140 block on the VF-2 and kept blowing through inserts every 20 minutes. Fourth one chipped and I was about to blame the holder, then I noticed the spindle load meter was sitting at 110 percent the whole time. Turned out my feeds were fine but I had the doc wrong, I was taking 0.15 instead of 0.05 because I misread the program comment from the previous setup guy. I backed the depth down and the next insert lasted the full 2 hour run. That meter was telling me the answer the whole time, I just was not looking at it. Anyone else catch a problem like that from a simple readout instead of swapping tooling first?
