Switched from manual edge finding to a probe on our Haas VF-2 last month and it cut setup time from 15 minutes to under 2.

I was skeptical at first since the probe cost us $800, but now I can run three parts in the time it used to take me to set up one, has anyone else made that swap and found it worth the money?

Probes pay for themselves in a week flat.

Have you actually run the numbers on that though? Most cheaper probes need a few weeks of solid fills to break even after you factor in the mounting and wiring time. And if you hit a dry patch or the probe dies early, you're already in the hole.

Yeah if you're lucky enough to hit a vein day one maybe.
