Vent: dropped $260 on a tool presetter and I'm kicking myself for waiting so long
I ran a Haas VF2 for six months touching off every tool with a piece of paper and a 0.001 indicator like some kind of caveman. Last month my boss finally got tired of scrapping parts and bought a used tool presetter off a shop in Akron that was closing down, cost us $260 with the stand. First job after we set it up, I pulled every offset off the screen, punched them in, hit cycle start, and every dimension landed inside 0.0005 on the first part. I used to think presetters were for big shops with pallet changers, not a two man job shop running short runs. Anybody else out there still hand touching tools, or am I the only one who was that stubborn?
