Overheard a kid say 'why would I learn to code, AI does it now'

Was at a coffee shop last Tuesday and this college kid said that to his friend. Made me pause. I've been coding since 2018 and that stuff still breaks all the time. AI can write a whole function but it can't debug a messy database query. Has anyone else run into this attitude from beginners?

I was helping my nephew with his first Python script last month and the AI wrote half of it wrong. It kept mixing up variable names and indentation. I told him coding is like learning to drive a stick shift even though automatic cars exist. You need to understand what the machine is actually doing when something breaks. The real value of learning to code is being able to fix things when the AI makes a mess.

Didn't the AI also tell him to delete system32?
