Python vs JavaScript: switching my learning path after 3 months of struggle
I spent 3 months trying to learn JavaScript first because everyone said it's everywhere. Kept getting stuck on callbacks and async stuff, felt like I was drowning. Last week I tried a basic Python course on Codecademy and finished my first working script in 2 days. The difference was the syntax, Python reads like plain English, so I could focus on logic instead of weird punctuation. Now I'm wondering if I should keep going with Python or go back to JS once I understand the basics better. Has anyone else switched their first language after hitting a wall, did it help long term?

My brother did almost the exact same thing back in 2019, spent months on JS and quit twice before trying Python. There's actually a well known blog post by a teacher named Vicki Boykis about how Python's syntax gets out of your way so you can learn to think in code first. That matches what you're saying about reading like plain English. I say stick with Python until loops and functions feel easy, then go back to JS later when you have the basics down. Async and callbacks are hard for everyone at first, they are not a sign you can't do it. Learning one language well makes the second one way less scary.
