Tried to follow a tutorial from 2019, half the commands don't exist anymore

Went to the local library's coding meetup in Austin last night and this guy was still teaching a Node version from 4 years ago. I spent 3 hours debugging what was literally a deprecated syntax error and felt like an idiot until someone finally told me. Has anyone else hit this wall where online guides are just too old to be useful?
